The history of the Parish Hall
Brent Knoll Parish Hall was originally built on a site kindly donated by Mr A W Bennis.  Local builders, J G Steer & Sons, erected the building and it was opened on Saturday February 26th 1927.  It had cost £950, £100 more than the original estimate, which had taken 6 years to raise.
Mr W T Petchey was the Chairman of the Building Committee, assisted by the Rev A C Schofield, who proclaimed it a Parish Hall, not a church or village hall.
Later a kitchen, toilet-block and store room were added, but in 1997 the Trustees decided to upgrade them all to a modern standard and Project 2000+ was launched.
In 2004 building works were completed, including new integrated extensions to the hall, helped by generous donations towards the total of cost approximately £250,000.  The hall was officially re-opened by Robin Bush (of Channel 4’s Time Team and Chairman of Somerset County Council) and Ann Bown (Chairman of Sedgemoor District Council) on 23rd October 2004.
In 2012, the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, additional building works took place and the “Jubilee Room” was completed, costing approximately £90,000.  It was opened by Tessa Munt MP and Frances James on the 25th August 2012.
The Hall is a registered charity (No. 271418) and is managed by a committee consisting of representatives of user groups and elected members.  It depends entirely on hiring fees and fundraising in order to function.
